Mactra symmetrica Deshayes in Reeve, 1854, [Synonym] Range: 26°S to 26°S; 49°W Distribution: Brazil: Santa Catarina References: Dall (1891c) NSEW; Ihering (1907: 320) s Comments: Named from New Caledonia, but reported from Brazil by Dall (1891). Reeve attributed the species to Deshayes in Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London, but Reeve's work came out in May, 1854 and Deshayes' in July, 1854. Reeve's Latin description is almost identical to Deshayes', so it clear that he had access to Deshayes' manuscript, thus the authorship of the name is cited as Deshayes in Reeve.
