Pfeiffer (1856: 193) said "prope Matanzas et Cardenas!", the exclamation point meaning he had collected the material himself. As Pfeiffer visited Cuba only in 1839, and kept a diary of his trip recording localities (Pfeiffer 1854: 172), this must be taken as the type locality.
