Details

Pecten sigsbeei Dall, 1886,
[Basis of the current name]
Range: 23.18°N ; 82.33°W
Depth: 289 m
Maximum Reported Size: 11.5 mm
Distribution: Florida Strait (offshore)
References: Dall (1889b) N
Comments: Stated in the original description to have been collected off Havana, but the coordinates given, 22°10'N, 82°20'W, are south of Cuba in an area too shallow for the 158 fathom depth. All Blake stations described as "off Havana" were north of Havana; presumably the locality is Blake station 52 Ag. or 59 Ag., which were at 158 fathoms, and the latitude should be 23°N, not 22°N. Dall (1889b) notes a record in the Florida Keys, but does not give depths other than 158 fathoms of the original description. Bieler & Mikkelsen (2004: 539) considered Dall's Florida Keys record in need of verification.
Combining Genera:  Cyclopecten
