References: Malaquias & Reid (2008) TM
Comments: Malaquias & Reid (2008) referred most Western Atlantic records of B. striata to B. occidentalis, but accepted the St. Helena record of B. striata by E. A. Smith (1890). As the fauna of St. Helena has strong Western Atlantic affinities, this record could also apply to B. occidentalis and so needs confirmation.

Type Locality: Jamaica; Barbadoes; mouths of the Niger; Siam, Goree, and the Isle of Elva]
Comments: Regarded as a nomen dubium by Malaquias & Reid (2008), but it would be preferable to designate a neotype making it a synonym of B. striata, otherwise the name could have priority over B. occidentalis.
