Rolán & Luque (2000) noted that a syntype of R. striatocostata was conspecific with one of R. decussata, but other authors (e.g., Jong & Coomans (1988) have considered the species distinct. They are treated as separate species here pending a lectotype designation. Odé's (1973c) record from the northwestern Gulf of Mexico needs confirmation.
