[Basis of the current name]

Neosimnia avena ruthturnerae Cate, 1973, p. 92, fig. 207
[Synonym]
Type Locality: Florida Keys
Maximum Reported Size: 7.4 mm
References: Cate (1973) M
Comments: Cate named Neosimnia avena ruthturnerae as a Western Atlantic subspecies of the Eastern Pacific N. avena avena. The holotype was supposedly collected in the Florida Keys in 1872. As no more specimens have been found in this intensively collected area, the type locality is regarded as erroneous and N. avena ruthturnerae is synonymized with N. avena.
