[Basis of the current name]
Type Locality: Unknown [Off Monos Island, Trinidad (neotype)]

References: Clench (1942b) T; Princz (1978b); Vink (1991) Neotype
Comments: Vink (1991) designated a neotype, restricting the species to the southern Caribbean and northern Brazil. Hendricks (2009) treated a number of species described as fossils as synonyms of C. jaspideus, but because he lumped C. stearnsii and C. pealii with C. jaspideus, those synonymies are not followed here. The identity of specimens reported by Macsotay & Campos (2001) from Isla Margarita is uncertain as they did not illustrate a specimen, and included in synonym C. jaspideus caboblanquensis, which F. H. A. Costa (1994) placed under C. puncticulatus.
