Comments: Error for fontainii in index of d'Orbigny (1846:730). Emendation by Hupé (1854), who used Doris fontainei instead of Doris fontainii and Octopus fontainei (p. 13) instead of Octopus fontainianus d'Orbigny. This qualifies as an emendation under ICZN Article 33.2.1, as "two or more names in the same work are treated in a similar way". Valdés & Muniain (2002) argued that "fontainei" is the correct spelling, as d'Orbigny stated that the species is named for Fontaine. However, d'Orbigny latinized the name in a legitimate way by dropping the -e and adding -ius, yielding Fontainius, the genitive of which is "fontainii".
