Seguenzia formosaJeffreys, 1876, p. 200-201, text-fig. [Basis of the current name] Type Locality: Valorous Expedition, North Atlantic, 1450 fathoms; Porcupine Expedition, Bay of Biscay, off Spain and Portugal, 718-795 fathoms Comments: Sometimes regarded as a synonym of S. monocingulata, but Quinn (1983: 728) considered the latter to be restricted to the Pliocene of Italy and used S. formosa as the name for the recent European species. Marshall (1983) considered S. monocingulata unidentifiable as the type material could not be located. Jeffreys (1876) gave records for S. formosa from the Challenger Expedition (sta. 56, SW of Bermudas, 1075 fathoms), and the Gulf of Mexico (325 fathoms by Pourtales) that presumably refer to S. lineata; records of S. formosa from the northwest Atlantic (e.g., Verrill 1884) may be S. nitida.
