Details
Triforis (Ino) longissimusDall, 1881, p. 80-81, [Dall 1889a, pl. 20, fig. 10] [Basis of the current name] Type Locality: Not stated [Dall 1889a, off Havana, 175-459 fathoms; Blake sta. 56, off Havana, Cuba, 23°09'00"N, 82°21'30"W, 175 fathoms (by lectotype designation, Rolán & Fernández-Garcés 2008)] Range: 26.51°N to 22.16°N; 82.5°W to 78.6°W Depth: 320 to 500 m Maximum Reported Size: 27.9 mm Distribution: USA: Florida: West Florida, Florida Keys; Bahamas: Grand Bahama Island; Cuba: North Havana Province References: Agassiz (1888); Dall (1889a); Rolán & Fernández-Garcés (2008b) cdNSEWM; ANSP (368279) D Comments: Rolán & Fernández-Garcés (2008b) restricted the type locality by designating a lectotype, but state the locality incorrectly. Blake sta. 56 is at 23°09'N, not 22°09'N, and at 175 fathoms, not 175 meters. Dall's (1889b: 138) record for North Carolina (repeated by Johnson 1934, Abbott 1974 and Porter 1964) is discounted; Dall listed Hatteras in his column for "Northern extreme range", but did not mark the species present in the Hatteras column. As the species immediately before and after on the Dall's list have Hatteras as the northern limit, the Hatteras listing for T. longissima is probably a typesetter's error. Rios's (1985) record from Brazil needs confirmation. Abbott's (1974) record in 40 fathoms from West Florida needs confirmation; it may refer to Inella pseudolongissima which is known from shallower water than I. longissima.
