Comments: Declared a nomen oblitum by Petit (2003) under ICZN Article 23.9.2, with the junior synonym Cassis madagascariensis becoming a nomen protectum. Perry's name still has priority over Cassis spinella if that is regarded as a separate taxon.

Comments: Often treated as a subspecies of Cassis madagascariensis, but they occur sympatrically, so it is either a synonym or a separate species. If a separate species, Cassis rotundata Perry, 1811 has priority.
