Patella opeaReeve, 1855a, pl. 29, fig. 79a-b [Synonymy uncertain] Attributed to: Nuttall Type Locality: Sandwich Islands [in error] References: Christiaens (1975b) s Comments: Nude name in Jay (1839).
Patella pulcherrima Krebs, 1864, [Synonym] References: Krebs in Matthew (1875: 22) Comments: Nude name in Petit (1851d: 426); introduced in synonymy of Patella candeana by Petit (1856b: 155); nude name in Carpenter (1857: 206). Krebs (1864) used it as the valid name for Patella candeana, thereby making it a junior objective synonym (as a replacement name). Because it was first published as a nude name, rather than a name introduced in synonymy, Patella pulcherrima dates from Krebs not Petit. Pilsbry (1891) noted that pulcherrima of authors was Acmaea punctulata, now known as Patelloida pustulata. Dall (1927a) intentionally validated Acmaea pulcherrima in this latter sense, unaware that Krebs had previously validated the name.
