Janthina luteaBennett, 1840b, p. 298, 62-63, Not figured [Synonymy uncertain] Type Locality: Pacific Ocean, 2°53'S, 174°55'E References: Boone (1984) Comments: Rehder (1980) treated R. lutea as a senior synonym of R. rollandiana, but stated that as far as he knew, the species was restricted to the Pacific. Boone (1984) used R. lutea for specimens from Texas because Abbott & Dance (1982) reported that species to be worldwide. However, Abbott & Dance did not state that R. rollandiana was a synonym of R. lutea, and it is possible that, as with Janthina, more than one species of Recluzia is worldwide in distribution. The original description of R. lutea is not sufficient to identify the species (unless there proves to be only one species of Recluzia in the Pacific), so it is listed here as a potential senior synonym of R. rollandiana [G. Rosenberg 2 April 2007].
