Comments: In his synonymy of Glaucus atlanticus, Bergh (1864, 1884) cited Breyn (1705: 2054, pl. 2, fig. 4) and Dupont (1763: 57, pl. 3) for use of the name Hirudo marinis. Breyn, however said 'Hirudinis marini species', meaning "a species of marine leech" and Dupont used no name for the animal he described and illustrated. Hirudo marinis is thus a name first introduced in synonymy, by Bergh (1864). Abbott (1954) used Glaucus marina Du Pont, 1763 as a valid name. Abbott (1974) stated that Glaucus marinus Du Pont, 1777 is an invalid name, accidentally giving the date from Glaucus atlanticus Forster, 1777.

Doris radiata Gmelin, 1791, p. 3105, [du Pont act. angl. 53, pl. 3]
