Smith (1888a: 17) listed Pterotrachea hyalina under the heading "Species beyond recognition, stating, "This species I am inclined to think must be a small Firoloida. Smith recognized seven species of Firoloida but van der Spoel (1976) synonymized all of them, considering Firoloida to be monotypic. Firoloida hyalina might therefore be an older name for Firoloida desmarestia.
