Comments: Kurtz attributes both genus and species names to Stimpson, but both are nude names; Stimpson did not published them. However, when Stimpson (1858) named Cochliolepis parasitica, as a new genus and species he stated that he and Kurtz had collected the species together in 1852, but that publication was delayed. Presumably Stimpson changed the name of the genus and species, but Kurtz did not find out because of the advent of the Civil War. The name C. parasitica does not appear on Kurtz's (1860) list. The type localities are coincident: Fort Johnson is on Charleston Harbor.
