Comments: Some Malacolog editions before 4.0.3 stated "The specific name is often spelled 'polare', but 'polaris' is not an adjective (or a word) in classical Latin, so Gray's original spelling must stand unchanged as the word could be a noun (Polaris, the pole star)..." However, polaris appears in Littleton's Latin Dictionary.
